EAMA - Engineering & Machinery Alliance Press Release

Comment on Chancellor's Budget Statement
Little in chancellor's statement to encourage SME manufacturers to invest

While welcoming the fact that the chancellor had not raised business taxes and promised action to reduce red tape, the Engineering and Machinery Alliance (EAMA) felt that overall there was little in the Budget statement to directly encourage their SME manufacturing members to invest in new plant or equipment.

Graham Hayes, EAMA chairman commented:
"The clear signal that there will be action on regulation is welcome. Red-blooded action will be needed to reduce the red tape, because it is now too well rooted into the business landscape. Keeping taxes at current levels is helpful, but I fear that it will not be enough to tackle the other priority issue for us, which is the need to increase UK manufacturing investment."

Notes to Editors:

  1. EAMA's six member associations are: British Automation and Robot Association (BARA), British Turned Part Manufacturers Association (BTMA), Gauge and Toolmakers Association (GTMA), Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), Printing, Papermaking and Converting Suppliers Association (PICON), Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA)
